Dear international Students,
Welcome to the HHU and welcome to the student body of the Sozialwissenschaften (social sciences) faculty.
We represent the interests of both the bachelor’s and master’s Students of the social sciences course of study and we are always approachable and glad to help. International students of these studies are very welcome to contact us in any case of language difficulties (Exams, Seminary, Communication struggles with professors or tutors, etc.) and we will support you or refer your problem to the right People.
We´d like to use this opportunity to inform you of some of the universities offers to assist international Students like yourself. There is the unit for international students (“Referat für international Studierende”), which, given the circumstances, offers an online German language café for students to practice their German while sharing stories and experiences, and to get to know other international students at the HHU. They are always approachable and are happy to talk to you.
Further assistance is offered by the Student Service Center (SSC), more specifically, the international office. They arrange language tandems, in which you teach your partner your mother tongue and he/she teaches you theirs.
Furthermore, it is possible to enroll in a “German as a foreign language” course through the his lsf website, however you have to consider the closing date for applications, since there is a limited number of spots on each course.
We hope to have presented you with some useful offers that will help you to overcome some of the language barriers that come with studying abroad. Hopefully you´ll be able to connect with some people, meet other students and soon feel at home at the HHU.
